Enhanced Trustworthy and High-Quality Information Retrieval System for Web Search Engines

    Get PDF
The WWW is the most important source of information. But, there is no guarantee for information correctness and lots of conflicting information is retrieved by the search engines and the quality of provided information also varies from low quality to high quality. We provide enhanced trustworthiness in both specific (entity) and broad (content) queries in web searching. The filtering of trustworthiness is based on 5 factors – Provenance, Authority, Age, Popularity, and Related Links. The trustworthiness is calculated based on these 5 factors and it is stored thereby increasing the performance in retrieving trustworthy websites. The calculated trustworthiness is stored only for static websites. Quality is provided based on policies selected by the user. Quality based ranking of retrieved trusted information is provided using WIQA (Web Information Quality Assessment) Framework

Preserved local but disrupted contextual figure-ground influences in an individual with abnormal function of intermediate visual areas

Visual perception depends not only on local stimulus features but also on their relationship to the surrounding stimulus context, as evident in both local and contextual influences on figure-ground segmentation. Intermediate visual areas may play a role in such contextual influences, as we tested here by examining LG, a rare case of developmental visual agnosia. LG has no evident abnormality of brain structure and functional neuroimaging showed relatively normal V1 function, but his intermediate visual areas (V2/V3) function abnormally. We found that contextual influences on figure-ground organization were selectively disrupted in LG, while local sources of figure-ground influences were preserved. Effects of object knowledge and familiarity on figure-ground organization were also significantly diminished. Our results suggest that the mechanisms mediating contextual and familiarity influences on figure-ground organization are dissociable from those mediating local influences on figure-ground assignment. The disruption of contextual processing in intermediate visual areas may play a role in the substantial object recognition difficulties experienced by LG

Cutaneous Basophilic Hypersensitivity Response to Fungal Antigens in Guinea Pigs

    Get PDF
Guinea pigs infected with Trichophyton mentagrophytes developed a cutaneous fungal lesion and became skin test positive to fungal antigen (trichophytin). The cutaneous fungal lesion, while thought to be a cell-mediated response, differed histologically from the skin test site. Basophils were not demonstrated in biopsies of cutaneous fungal lesions, whereas basophils were numerous in biopsies of trichophytin skin test sites. When sensitization to trichophytin was accomplished by injection of hypha in complete Freund's adjuvant instead of infecting with live fungus, basophils could not be demonstrated in skin test sites. This report demonstrated that guinea pigs could be primed for cutaneous basophilic hypersensitivity (CBH) responses by infection with live fungus

Noise and the Law: A Survey

    Get PDF
The subject of noise and the law has received extensive comment recently as a consequence of a more general concern with environmental protection. Although a certain amount of redundancy, therefore, cannot be avoided in treating this subject, the purpose of this article is to set forth the state of the law with respect to problems of noise. Consideration will first be given to the private remedies available to persons whose personal or property rights are adversely affected by noise. Secondly, the law of public nuisance will be explored as a transitional concept from private remedy to public regulation. The various types of public regulation will then be discussed. Finally, certain conclusions about the manner in which the law seeks to deal with problems of noise and the direction of prospective legislation and programs of noise control will be made

Variations on a Theme by Sander: Does a Mediator Have a Philosophical Map?

Can a mediator play a constructive role in helping citizens confront and resolve the most divisive issues of our times? We believe the answer is affirmative, but we worry that such a view, though richly grounded in our historical tradition, is now neither widely endorsed nor effectively implemented. We belong to a group of dispute resolution professionals who learned both from mentors and experience that ADR—and mediation, in particular-offers a philosophical map for conducting problem—solving activities among fellow citizens that systematically supports and advances our most noble aspirations for a fair society. Be it the urban riots of the 1960s or the recent, polarizing events from Ferguson to Baltimore, we thought-and were inspired-by the perhaps naive notion that a mediator, in the soaring terms of our Constitution\u27s Preamble, could effectively trigger disputants to become We, the people; assist citizens to ... form a more perfect union; work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to ... establish justice; and, in so doing, ... secure the blessings of liberty to [themselves] and to [their] posterity. At its core, this approach to mediation-this philosophical map-embraces the right of each participant to be treated with respect; participate in the decision-making process; have an equal voice in determining the outcome of the controversy; assume a meaningful role in shaping the fundamental structures of his or her community; and, significantly, shoulder personal responsibility for the progress and outcome of his or her engagement and dialogue. That map-emphatically-affirms that all participant conduct, including the mediator and all stakeholders, and activities that occur within the mediation process are, constitutionally, justice-based events. Two questions, then, arise about this mediator\u27s map that we find persuasive: first, is it coherent? Second, if coherent, does it comport with contemporary mediation practice? We believe that the answers are, respectively: yes-and not entirely. Our hesitation to answer affirmatively stems from our deep concern that the approach to mediation that seems widely embraced by law-trained mediators—what Riskin and Welsh describe as a \u27thin vision\u27 of mediation—appears to operate at cross purposes with this conception of the mediator\u27s philosophical map. Specifically, a thin approach eliminates as inappropriate the use of mediation in matters laced with social justice dimensions

Fabrication and characterization of chitosan coated and uncoated pcl/ha/ppy composite scaffoldsusing freeze drying technique

    Get PDF
Chitosan is an abundantly common, naturally occurring, polysaccharide biopolymer. In this study, chitosan was used to coat previously fabricated conductive Polycaprolactone/Hydroxyapatite/Polypyrrole (PCL/HA/PPY) composite scaffold and the properties of the coated and non-coated scaffolds were investigated and compared. The morphology of the chitosan coated and non-coated scaffolds were characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The wettability was determined using a water contact angle measuring system. Furthermore, water uptake was determined by measuring the water absorption of each sample before and after coated with chitosan. Water contact angle result revealed an increase in wettability of the scaffolds ranging from 108° ± 4.2 down to 59.4° ± 0.7. On the other hand, the coated sample showed a higher water uptake than the non-coated sample. The results indicated that coating with chitosan was important to increase water absorption of composite scaffold, rendering it more hydrophilic
